About us
Who we are
We’re the Broadbottom Community Association (BCA). A registered charity ( No. 505679), BCA is made up of trustees elected by members of the local community.
We operate on a volunteer basis, offering a variety of skills, knowledge and experience to help with the management of community facilities and local projects in the village. We’re always looking for new volunteers to help generally or with specific events. Please contact us if you want to know more.
We’re here to enhance the local community spirit, by bringing people of all ages together for relaxation and play. But we don’t stop there. We support and promote complementary village projects and initiatives too.
Our funding and activities
The BCA relies solely on public generosity. As a registered charity, we take pride in serving as the neighbourhood hub for the village. Even with volunteers providing their time free, without donations from households and businesses in the village, we couldn’t continue with our current activities. These include:
The Community Centre
We’re responsible for the lettings and maintenance of the community centre, an excellent and reasonably priced facility for a range of activities. From preschool play groups to fitness classes, the community centre is buzzing with fun and inclusive pastimes for the village to enjoy. You can also hire the hall for your own event.
The Community Garden
We’re responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of our lovely community garden, located at the bottom of Lower Market Street.
BroadCAst
Our newsletter for the village was launched in November 2022, to keep you up to date with all the latest community news, activities and events. The latest edition is always available online and emailed to subscribers and, when funds allow, we also print it and deliver door-to-door around the village. We welcome suggestions for relevant articles and advertising/sponsorship from businesses.
Events
We organise many village events throughout the year, including the Easter egg hunt, scarecrow competition, duck race and BBQ, the Autumn Show, carol singing and more. We buy supplies and arrange print and distribution of posters and leaflets to promote these events. We also do our best to promote and support complementary village projects and initiatives. We welcome relevant advertising in our event leaflets and online events calendar.
Online services
We launched a new website in October 2022 and use it to provide up to date information on the BCA and village activities and events. At the same time, we launched a new digital newsletter, BroadCAst, available on the website and via email for those who subscribe. We welcome suggestions for relevant articles and advertising.
We don’t currently have access to the village Facebook page at facebook.com/broadbottom (although we would like to and have tried to contact the administrators) so the information on it is not up to date. However, we use the independent Facebook group ‘I Love Broadbottom’ to share information on social media.
